Beautiful Watercolor of a magnolia flower Nancy FAV+
Nancy Kane Chapman replied:
Thanks, Nancy. As I progressed through seasons and even years of magnolia paintings I noticed that the flowers themselves seemed to have personalities!!

Many thanks Lyric for featuring my "White Grace" in Bedroom Art Gallery. So sorry to be this late with my appreciation. I had such a busy week (new fence, tree work, concrete solutions!!) what a spring!

I did these years ago. We just went by a magnolia tree this evening and there were many blooms...with such aroma. Perhaps I'll try another one.

Angela took the words out of my mouth!! This is purely exquisite, Nancy. They are such magnificent flowers and I have taken umpteen pictures of magnolia blossoms and never had the courage to paint one, even though that was my original intent.
Nancy Kane Chapman replied:
I took a course in botanical art at the LA Arboretum. The teacher was a botanist, an ex forest ranger, and she was quite old and powerful. We had only one flower in front of us, and she used illustrations from children's books to show us how to add "tricks" which added flair. So when I found magnolias I never painted from a photo. Try this. You will love what you do!!! The flower gives you the courage.

If I could do magnolias as beautiful as you render them, I would paint nothing else! So very lovely! LF
Nancy Kane Chapman replied:
You are such a dear, Angela. I really did spend years in the beautiful white petals and gorgeous rich aromas of magnolias. Maybe this year I'll do one more!

Gorgeous!!! L/F!
Nancy Kane Chapman replied:
From the moment you bring these flowers in the house as buds, they are on the move ....opening slowly so it's quite exciting to paint them from life. You surely don't break for lunch!
