Artist's Description
This year's hosta crop seemed to be unique. For one thing, it was late and as I continued to see just green leaves I worried a bit. And then it happened, the long stems, the buds....but look closely, this year it seemed that there were too many buds, a profusion in fact...almost a crowd up there on the pale green stem. About Nancy Kane Chapman
I began my love for art by watching my mother paint in oils and pastels. I must have caught the bug because I have enjoyed fifty years of drawing, painting and photography, urged on and instructed by professors, a botanist, a master of Chinese brush painting and calligraphy, water colorists and lately, mixed media devotees. So lovely! Hostas are, of course, loved for their foliage, but their delicate blooms are so lovely too! Nature making us wait is quite a clever way to make us even more grateful when the bloom finally comes out! Beautiful work, Nancy! . . . .f/l
Nancy Kane Chapman replied:
This year's crop well established and the leaves are beginning to unfurl! I love spring and hostas always give me the first joy! Thanks, Karen!

So nice to visit the hosta patch in winter!!! It's the first spring sprout to emerge but I'll have to admit, the oak tree already has full buds....and it just lost its leaves. Amazing nature!! Thanks, I'ina. I'll get art busy soon!

I just cleaned my hosta beds this week. I always feel sad to see them go. Then I noticed at the botanical gardens that many varieties are just ready to bloom. I wonder now about getting some new bulbs!!!
