Louise Nevelson (1899-1988) was the most original and perhaps the most famous American sculptor of the 20th century. Ft. Myers, Florida airport is honoring her with a wonderful exhibit of her work, Dawn's Forest. I was lucky enough to be traveling there this spring and could photograph this beautiful work.
I began my love for art by watching my mother paint in oils and pastels. I must have caught the bug because I have enjoyed fifty years of drawing, painting and photography, urged on and instructed by professors, a botanist, a master of Chinese brush painting and calligraphy, water colorists and lately, mixed media devotees. After a course in cubism in 1973 I began to explore pen and ink geometric art. Each stroke was unplanned but exact, the designs becoming more elaborate and more fun to execute. wow so very cool.
Nancy Kane Chapman replied:
I wonder now where all of these pieces "live". I'll have to do some research!!! Thanks, Wayne!
Mary Machare
Wonderful capture of this iconic sculpture! I love the processing on the photo. LF
Nancy Kane Chapman replied:
Many thanks, Mary. I didn't really fix this photo and the magic of it is that I had so little time (my plane was ready to depart) to capture these shots!
Wayne Moran
wow such a wonderfully fabulous piece of work.
Nancy Kane Chapman replied:
I so appreciate this comment, Wayne. Your photography is so pro and I did feel with so little time I was able to catch the magnitude and beauty of this exhibit!! Such luck.
Maggie Terlecki
Beautiful work. You really show off the piece splendidly! Love the light entering the image too. Gives so much brightness to the image. Well done, Nancy! :-) Maggie
Nancy Kane Chapman replied:
I was so happy to see that my quick photography captured so much of her work. As I mentioned my plane was ready to board and I had to hurry! Thanks, Maggie!!

Thank you, my buyer from Hilltown, Pennsylvania for purchasing a greeting card of "Dawn's Forest 1986". This photo opportunity was shortened by the time I had before boarding our plane and I was so pleased with my quick framing of the subject and the glorious sunlight which made the patterns even more beautiful. Louise Nevelson would have loved this gallery for her stunning work. I hope my buyer will love this card.

Nancy, this is another example of Louise Nevelson's unique and outstanding sculpture. I'm so glad to find out about her through your fine photography. Another fave. LF .
Nancy Kane Chapman replied:
I'm reading her biography now but picked up one which does not include her later work...i.e. this one called "Forest Light". She did this two years before she died...at 98 years of age! I'll have to get another biography to see how in the world she accomplished this...!!!
