Beautiful closeup of the delicate Hosta flower... gorgeous work, Nancy. LF

The leaves are so beautiful, the rock garden well watered. I'm waiting now for the first bloom!!! Thanks, Mary!

So lovely! Hostas are, of course, loved for their foliage, but their delicate blooms are so lovely too! Nature making us wait is quite a clever way to make us even more grateful when the bloom finally comes out! Beautiful work, Nancy! . . . .f/l

This year's crop well established and the leaves are beginning to unfurl! I love spring and hostas always give me the first joy! Thanks, Karen!

While looking at it I can feel like the buds are opening slowly spreading fragrance....Such a lively capture dear Nancy. So tempting to pluck those beauties....what a color and your description is so wonderful!!!! (F/L)

So happy you fell under the Hosta's charm. This year's "crop" has not emerged yet, but so soon without any help from me they will push up from the earth! Thanks, Latha for your kind praise!

So nice to visit the hosta patch in winter!!! It's the first spring sprout to emerge but I'll have to admit, the oak tree already has full buds....and it just lost its leaves. Amazing nature!! Thanks, I'ina. I'll get art busy soon!

Beautiful and so alive.

This year's crop is tumbling down the front yard in a rock garden...looking very healthy, except for one which seems to have been visited by a rabbit. Time for some cayenne pepper and water!

Nancy, what an amazing capture of this hosta! I love your description, too, with a memorable last line: "Nature will make its statement, disclose the secrets of the earth." I also love the profusion of buds and leaves--what a wonderful perspective! l/f

I just cleaned my hosta beds this week. I always feel sad to see them go. Then I noticed at the botanical gardens that many varieties are just ready to bloom. I wonder now about getting some new bulbs!!!

Artist's Description

This year's hosta crop seemed to be unique. For one thing, it was late and as I continued to see just green leaves I worried a bit. And then it happened, the long stems, the buds....but look closely, this year it seemed that there were too many buds, a profusion in fact...almost a crowd up there on the pale green stem. All that rain. Nature will make its statement, disclose the secrets of the earth.

About Nancy Kane Chapman

Nancy Kane Chapman

I began my love for art by watching my mother paint in oils and pastels. I must have caught the bug because I have enjoyed fifty years of drawing, painting and photography, urged on and instructed by professors, a botanist, a master of Chinese brush painting and calligraphy, water colorists and lately, mixed media devotees. After a course in cubism in 1973 I began to explore pen and ink geometric art. Each stroke was unplanned but exact, the designs becoming more elaborate and more fun to execute. First circles, then onward to straight lines, then organic and architectural constructions. Thirty years later I still dance out on the white space of a simple sheet of paper to weave new drawings. Picasa effects allow me to...
