Title
City on a Hill
Artist
Nancy Kane Chapman
Medium
Painting - Watercolor, Colored Pencils
Description
A hillside city, perhaps Positano but looking rather British so really a composite of so many sights one sees when doing the continent. I was there for six months in as many countries and it's all a whirl now, all congealed. And ripe for artistic expression by Nancy Kane Chapman.

Many thanks Stefano for this feature in 10 Plus. Always honored to have my art noticed and this is such a wonderful showcase for older but popular work.

Nancy Kane Chapman replied:
I've never really painted anything like this before. And I've played color editing with it on the computer. Very fun! Thanks, Marsha.

Lovely, Nancy. Feels like a medieval city. Mysterious. Wonderful light. lf
Nancy Kane Chapman replied:
The light came from Picasa color editing which I should have noted in the description. The actual work was green! I was so delighted with this new look....it changed everything!
Laura D Young
Beautiful abstract of a lovely imaginary city! l/f
Nancy Kane Chapman replied:
Many thanks, Laura. I was in LA when I painted this ...and I have memories of living in an over the cliff house above Laurel Canyon in my thirties. Guess these sensations never really go away.

Absolutely gorgeous work! I love this! And it has a feeling of music in the air! v/f!!!
Uma Krishnamoorthy
There seems to be a lot happening in this hillside city......reminds me of some of the Indian cities on hills! Vibrant and full of energy!
Nancy Kane Chapman replied:
Many thanks, Uma. A few months ago I was in LA visiting my daughter when I painted this....and interestingly enough I lived in one of these cliff like homes in the 70's when I was single (but met my now husband then) so these sights are maybe not European at all.

Wow, truly amazing, FL
Nancy Kane Chapman replied:
I'm amazed at the change in tone with a simple computer edit. I wish this technology had been around when I was a young artist!
Xueping Zhang
Great work Nancy! This is a busy city but extremely beautiful! F/l
Nancy Kane Chapman replied:
Thanks, Xueping! I'm having such a wonderful time exploring computer "colors".

It does have a bit of a London in the rain feel, which is perfect since it also has a reflective feel for me. Very intriguing! Gorgeous work Nancy! l/f!

I lived in Europe for a couple of years Nancy and you have captured the grey oppressiveness I felt with the claustrophobic weight of a blood soaked and cruel history,. Well done F/l
Nancy Kane Chapman replied:
I love your analysis, Denise. Certainly there is density here, and that black seems like the creep of ancient mold. Who knows what I've represented.....but it caught my eye as I tried to give it life with computer emendations.
