Description
Years ago I visited my family's state park in Lost Creek, West Virginia. I photographed many of the barns, sheds and the lovely grounds. In the carriage museum was my very favorite artifact, this beautiful one horse basket sleigh with lovely arched front with duck heads in metal created in the blacksmith shop. Later, I revisited the park with my children, and....the sleigh was GONE. But I had this beautiful first photograph...so here it is...still with me. And making such a wonderful holiday card!

Wonderfully graceful lines in this magnificent piece. Something tells me there was a sleigh ... a very old sleigh ... in one of the barns at my grandparents farm. Sadly, this is the barn that fell down ... a whopper of a storm or hurricane, if I remember right. I didn't think to ask about the sleigh at the time (I was very, very little) ... but now and then, such as now, something reminds me and I think of the dreams little-kid me had about riding in that sleigh one day!!!! Great art !!!!!!! l/f

Thanks so very much, Lois. My family donated the barns and the land to the state and they created a park from it. There's so much history and I've begun a small book about them. We'll see how far I get...!!

The mystery of the lost sleigh. I may be like Nancy Drew and get busy this year and try to find out where it was placed. I bet it's in some museum...without the right tag on it!!!
