I began my love for art by watching my mother paint in oils and pastels. I must have caught the bug because I have enjoyed fifty years of drawing, painting and photography, urged on and instructed by professors, a botanist, a master of Chinese brush painting and calligraphy, water colorists and lately, mixed media devotees. After a course in cubism in 1973 I began to explore pen and ink geometric art. Each stroke was unplanned but exact, the designs becoming more elaborate and more fun to execute. First circles, then onward to straight lines, then organic and architectural constructions. Thirty years later I still dance out on the white space of a simple sheet of paper to weave new drawings. Thanks so very much Brooks for this feature in A Woman's Touch. These mountains which are everywhere in my art are indeed my childhood adventures. Growing up in a small town surrounded by hills and having brothers and sisters who loved hiking and sledding and even riding on broom sage in boxes in the summer....it was awesome fun! It's wonderful to have this extra showcase!
Rosemary Colyer

Nancy Kane Chapman replied:
Many thanks, Rosemary! I've been in LA all week helping my daughter move so I've been far away from art and FAA.

Thanks, Nikki. I like having more than one painting in a painting...if that makes sense.
Anna Yurasovsky
This fantasy is so real - I feel like I am running along the road that leads somewhere among these rocks and trees... So profound and imaginative.
Nancy Kane Chapman replied:

Mother Nature
F/L Ohhhh - gorgeous! Wish it was a real place!
Nancy Kane Chapman replied:
All these mountains I "make" feel real to me since I spent summers climbing them with my brother and sister and friends. We grew up in a safe little county seat town in West Virginia, Weston....nestled in a high valley with smallish mountains on all sides....perfect for hiking! In the winter it was great for sled riding...so that world becomes black/blue and white!
Sarah Loft
Terrific!
Nancy Kane Chapman replied:
Many thanks, Sarah. I do love creating mountains!
Meg Shearer
Fascinating and beautiful work! I love the contrasts and textures! l/f!
Nancy Kane Chapman replied:
I am only now realizing how much this ties in to my childhood where hiking the hills (little mountains) around our town was a given as soon as the weather permitted. An all summer playground...and the autumn the best.
VIVA Anderson
Love this one, too !! FAB.....vf........VIVA
Nancy Kane Chapman replied:
Thanks, Vivian. I'm just compelled to create these hills.....one after another.
