White Grace

Thanks, Nancy. As I progressed through seasons and even years of magnolia paintings I noticed that the flowers themselves seemed to have personalities!!

So excited to see White Grace featured in Beautiful Watercolors. I was so dedicated to this flower...for years!

You are wonderful to come back and give another comment. I do think this was some of my best work....with younger eyes...and for certain...more patience!

i never sold these....I still have all of the originals and I've often thought....why not have a small show some day? I may investigate this possibility. Thanks so much for your lovely comment!

I did these years ago. We just went by a magnolia tree this evening and there were many blooms...with such aroma. Perhaps I'll try another one.

I took a course in botanical art at the LA Arboretum. The teacher was a botanist, an ex forest ranger, and she was quite old and powerful. We had only one flower in front of us, and she used illustrations from children's books to show us how to add "tricks" which added flair. So when I found magnolias I never painted from a photo. Try this. You will love what you do!!! The flower gives you the courage.

You are such a dear, Angela. I really did spend years in the beautiful white petals and gorgeous rich aromas of magnolias. Maybe this year I'll do one more!

From the moment you bring these flowers in the house as buds, they are on the move ....opening slowly so it's quite exciting to paint them from life. You surely don't break for lunch!

It becomes apparent that each magnolia is a new mood....this one jaunty and waving Hi! Or so I think as I look them over now. You are so nice to visit my magnolia collection!
