Magnolia Highlight

Many thanks, Sue. I took courses in botanical art and was so inspired....years ago when we lived in California.

So happy to have this praise. I know you can see the joy I had in painting these wonderful blooms! Each a challenge!!

I painted these after taking courses at the LA Arboretum taught by an ancient lady botanist who was a former Forest Ranger!!!! Thanks for your lovely comments, I'ina. Really nice!!

In the category..."her earlier work"...!!! Actually a few of them were more recent. Quite smitten with this flower!!!

I still remember the excitement I had in front of each of these magnolias, perched in water in front of me, slowing opening with the heat from the room. .... the challenge, the fun of trying to "catch" the. beauty and structure. each one of these paintings different....separated by weeks and sometimes years. The wonderful aromas......goodness. I was such an artist in those years.

Thanks so much, Ruth. I have always been a good student and I was taking botanical art when I started this series. I think I get some courage from the instruction. I was very proud of this work.

I'm so happy you wandered over to my magnolia gallery. I just fell in love with these flowers. There were so many magnolia trees in Pasadena and I always painted from a fresh one with its beautiful perfume filling the air. It was a very exciting time in my art "life".

This view and the pale colors were a change up. I remember really enjoying creating this one.

There were so many of these that one might say I had a "Magnolia period" in my art career! Each new painting was truly exciting!

So glad you found them! I really enjoyed each portrait. And none were painted from a photograph so it was quite an experience to try to catch the shapes and shadows as the flower continued to open.
