Description
I have always sketched and painted in front of a real flower. Of course I
photographed them too, but never relied on a picture to capture the essence. I loved their structure which creates such wondrous shadows on their cuplike petals.

Nancy Kane Chapman replied:
Those were the days.....! I work very well after taking a class and learning something new. I had the best teacher for botanical art....a botanist, a former forest ranger, quite old. So fun!

Nancy -- wonderful! the positions of the leaves give the flower a "springy boyency" lifting the flower up in the painting -- a nice effect. L/F
Nancy Kane Chapman replied:
Thanks so much, Bill. I keep thinking I'm "done" with this flower, but I'm already very aware of where I can find my next "steal" in the neighborhood. I may have to plant a magnolia tree....finally.
